Defibrillators - More Information

Heartsine Defibrillator

What are Defibrillators?

Defibrillators are the best way to respond to sudden cardiac arrest emergencies. A Defibrillator is connected to the casualty by way of electrodes and pads, which administer electric shocks to restart and normalise the heartbeat.

Why do we need a Defibrillator?

During a sudden cardiac arrest, getting the casualty's heart restarted as soon as possible is the key to survival. Calling and waiting for the emergency services is simply not good enough – it might be 20 minutes or more before paramedics arrive on site, at which point survival is unlikely.

Having an on-site Defibrillator enables even untrained and inexperienced people to administer effective first aid and restart the heart while waiting for a professional to arrive.

How do Defibrillators work?

Defibrillators are available in two distinct types – fully automatic and semi automatic.

Fully automatic Defibrillators assess the heart rhythm of the patient and deliver shocks with no manual input. This takes some of the pressure off the emergency responder, which can help the rescue attempt.

A semi automatic Defibrillator detects when a shock needs to be delivered and then instructs the user to press a button to deliver the shock.

Which Defibrillators are in the First Mats range?

We have both semi and fully automatic models available.

Our range of Defibrillators includes units designed for industrial sites with tolerances for water jets and heavy loads built in as well as ones suitable for both children and adults – useful in mixed environments such as schools or commercial sites.

All  our Defibrillators are easy to use and many models give voice prompts on cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) with real time feedback on compressions, further increasing the likelihood of a successful rescue.
