Flyball is an exciting canine sport where teams of dogs run along a short track over hurdles, grab a tennis ball, and then run back to their owners. The first team to have all dogs back with their owners wins.
But what has this got to do with floor matting? Well it's actually used in two places during this event. On the first run, the dogs are sprinting at very high speeds towards a box which will release a tennis ball. Foam matting is often used on these boxes to cushion the impact for the dogs, before they turn around and run back down the course to their owners.
In many cases, this foam material is the same type used for Anti-Fatigue floor matting. It's strong and comfortable nature make it an ideal material for this application.
For indoor events, such as those that take place at the annual Crufts show, this same matting is also used for the track as it provides a comfortable padded surface whilst also reducing noise.
So for anyone involved in Flyball, or any similar type of Dog Agility training, we have put together a guide for our matting types that they may find to be a great addition to their sport.
One of the most popular matting types is a ribbed or channelled matting, both for the box and for the track. Our RibTexture matting is also popular in factories and warehouses thanks to it's comfortable and hard wearing PVC foam material. RibTexture is available in custom length of your choosing, or as a complete roll of 18.3m in length. Prices for the custom length options start at just £0.17 per cm. This mat is also flame retardant and slip tested to DIN 51130.

Sometimes a more subtle matting is preferred - and in those cases, our AtEase Pebble matting is an ideal option. It is made to the same specification as the RibTexture mat, including the wide range of custom and full roll size options. It is actually one of the most popular mats in the First Mats range and has been used for multiple applications, from anti-fatigue matting in warehouses to noise-cancelling matting in driving ranges.
