Shelving and racking are commonly used in warehouses to store products and materials. It helps keep the warehouse organized and tidy and makes it easier to find items when needed. Shelving and racking can also be used in offices, garages, and stores. Shelving is typically made from metal or plastic and is available in various sizes and styles. Racking is usually made from metal and is designed to hold heavy items such as boxes of printer paper or pallets.

How to Choose the Best Shelving and Racking

Choosing the best Shelving and Racking for you depends on what it is you intend to store. Do you need heavy-duty shelving systems that have massive load capacities? Sheet materials or panels that need vertical storage for easier access? Lighter goods that could be stored cost-effectively on mesh/wire shelving units? You’ll need to thoroughly understand what you will use the shelving and racking for.

Secondly, how do you store these goods? Do you need shelving and racking that can be easily loaded and unloaded with a forklift truck or a pallet dolly? Do you have a large vertical space that will need higher shelving units to utilize the space best? Can you floor or wall mount your shelving and racking for better stability?

What shelving and racking types are available?

When you’ve got the answers to these questions, it’s time to start looking at the available options.

Metal shelving and racking - These metal-framed shelving units are a versatile, easy to maintain and strong solution, with some models available with load capacities of up to 250kg per shelf.

Heavy-duty warehouse shelving and racking - Similar in construction to the metal shelving units, these heavy-duty models are built for the rigours of a high-traffic, demanding warehouse or stock room environment. Load capacities available in this range are up to 600kg per shelf, so are capable of storing even very heavy stock. These units are also available in various widths, heights, depths and shelf/tier layouts, meaning there should be an option to fit your requirements.

Cantilever racks - Designed for effectively storing, organising and accessing long-length items, like bars, tubes and pipes. These can be found in single- or double-sided variants and capacities between 200kg and 1000kg per arm. There are also wheeled options for mobile storage.

Pallet shelving and racking - Specifically built for the storage of pallets, these units are a heavy-duty, reliable and super-strong storage solution. Available in a range of height, width and depth variants to suit your space and volume requirements.

Vertical storage racks - Designed to store sheet materials, pipes, tubes and planks upright for easy organisation and access. They're available in staggered, stackable, standard- and multi-height variants, with load capacities of up to 1000kg. Wheeled units are also offered to provide mobility and manoeuvrability to the storage.

Wire shelving and racking - This kind of shelving and racking is more stylish and aesthetically pleasing, making it great for front-of-house, public-facing use. Wire shelving is available in various sizes and shelf/tier options, allowing free airflow around the stored items and great visibility.
