Petrol Generators - More Information

What are Petrol Generators?

Petrol Generators from our Tools and Supplies collection provide off-mains portable electrical power. They’re used to power electrical tools and lighting, and have leisure / domestic applications - camping and caravanning and DIY for example - and professional uses, for example on construction sites. 2 stroke and 4 stroke generators can even be used for emergency power back up and to power PCs and laptops.

How does a Petrol Generator work?

The petrol generator’s internal combustion engine powers an electrical generator, which in turn produces electricity to power electrical appliances and equipment.

What are the benefits of Petrol Generators?

  • 2 and 4 stroke generators allow electrical equipment to be used outdoors where there is no access to mains electricity
  • Petrol generators are portable, so they can be located exactly where they are needed
  • A Petrol Generator is designed to deliver power for several hours on a full tank

Which Petrol Generators are in the First Mats range?

We have a wide range of petrol generators with running times up to 13 hours, 2 stroke or 4 stroke generator options, and with different power outputs, from 720W right up to 6,000W – allowing you to choose the capacity that best suits your needs.

All of our petrol generators are portable and designed for outdoor use. Many of our petrol generator models have safety overload protection and a sturdy tubular frame that protects the generator from knocks and bumps on-site – the frame also makes the generator easy to carry. Larger petrol generator models have wheels, too, to aid portability.

2 Stroke or 4 Stroke Generators?

Our two-stroke models are generally lighter than four-stroke generator models, with a simpler design. They also deliver a good amount of power for their size: ideal for DIY, leisure and similar uses – our 2hp 720W Compact 2 Stroke Petrol Generator, for example, delivers up to six hours’ power. Four-stroke petrol generators have larger tanks, with a larger wattage, and are more fuel-efficient, making them a popular choice for work applications.

230v or 110v Generator?

Many of our petrol generators have one standard 230v socket, making them ideal for powering small tools and lighting.

For construction sites and similar settings, consider the 9.2hp 3800W 4 Stroke Petrol Generator - 110/230v and the 13hp 6000W 4 Stroke Petrol Generator - 110/230v. Both have a dual voltage function with two sockets, allowing the user to run one piece of equipment on the 230v socket and another 110v tool on the other – the lower voltage option is required on construction and similar industrial sites for health and safety reasons.

Will the petrol generator be powering electrical equipment?

If so, our 1000W Lightweight 2 Stroke Petrol Inverter Generator and 2000W 4 Stroke Petrol Inverter Generator - 230v are both ideal, as their inverter ensures they can be used with sensitive electrical equipment such as laptops and PCs. The digital inverter technology provides stable 'clean' output, with no power dips or surges that could damage the equipment.
