Evacuation chairs, also called Escape Chairs, combine features of stretchers and wheelchairs to quickly move people with disabilities up and down staircases in the event of an emergency.

Their clever design enables smooth descent and is normally able to be operated by a lone person. Whilst the laws in the UK do not specifically mention Escape or Evacuation chairs, the Disability Discrimination Act 1995 says that every person is to have a safe entrance in and out of a building. Also, the Regulatory Reform for Fire Safety in 2005 states that business owners have a legal duty to ensure the safety of all people who are on their premises.
